Waterford
(Waterford, CT). -- When it comes to the
Modified Racing Series, the historic
Waterford Speedbowl, Waterford, Ct, seems to
bring out the best in everyone. Since 2006,
eight different drivers in nine races have
visited victory lane at the famed speedway.
Only one competitor has been able to repeat.
Doug Coby of Milford, CT., hopes to become
the first three-time series winner at “The
Bowl” when the popular touring division,
featuring 600 horse powered modifieds and
sponsored by Bob Valenti AutoMall.com,
competes Saturday, August, 14, as part of
the 3rd annual Wings and Wheels race
program.
The 100-lap green flag race already has 29
teams pre-registered as of Tuesday Aug 10.
This weekend’s event will feature a hotly
contested three-way battle for the
championship with 2006 champion Dwight
Jarvis, Ascutney, VT., defending series
champion, Jonathan McKennedy, E.Chelmsford,
MA., and Les Hinckley, Windsor Locks, CT., a
13 time race winner, entered in the event.

standings this season.
McKennedy is currently 11 points off the top
with Hinckley only 17 points from first
place. Jarvis has put together two
consecutive strong outings at Canaan, NH.,
and Scarborough, ME., finishing second in
both races to move him into the point lead.
To date, 10 different drivers in 11 races
have visited victory lane. Last year the
series received national achievement
recognition for 12 winners in 15 races.
Last season’s winner, Rowan Pennink,

Barry, Preston, CT., Eddy Spiers, Beacon
Falls, CT, Mike Holdridge, Madison, CT., and

is scheduled to make his first start in a
brand new Troyer chassis car owned by
Lowell, MA., businessman Kevin Stuart.
Stuart will also have his team car at
Waterford for veteran driver Louie
Mechalides, Tyngsboro, MA.
