McKennedy Nabs Third Win At Oxford Plains:
Oxford, Maine: (July
18, 2009) – Jon McKennedy of Chelmsford, Mass., drove by
Andy Seuss for the lead in lapped traffic on the 77th
circuit to win his third True Value Modified Series race
of 2009 on Saturday night in the “Maine-Ly Action Sports
100” at the famed Oxford Plains Speedway.
McKennedy started on the pole, but was overtaken for the
lead by Rob Goodenough on lap 17, moments after the
first of only two caution periods during the event. The
caution on lap 15 was necessitated when Tony Ricci spun
out of a top five position with a flat right rear tire.
The next caution wouldn’t occur until there were 97 laps
completed.
Andy Seuss took the lead from Goodenough as the 22-car
field worked lap 44, after a three-lap effort in the
outside lane. Two laps later, McKennedy drove into the
second position.
A race for the lead developed between Seuss and
McKennedy, as they raced wheel-to-wheel on many
occasions before McKennedy took the lead for good on lap
77 as the two worked around lapped traffic.
While McKennedy sprinted off to a comfortable lead, the
rest of the top ten was changing by the moment. Dwight
Jarvis moved to the second position on lap 85, while
David Pinkham made his way to third place from the
scratch position with just eight laps to go.
Kevin Iannarelli spun off turn two before lap 98 was
completed to set up a three-lap race to the finish, and
McKennedy was fast enough to hold the lead over Jarvis,
Pinkham and Seuss. Ed Dachenhausen capped off a
consistent run with a fifth place finish.
The race was completed in just 34 minutes, with a margin
of victory of 0.371 seconds and an average speed of
66.147 seconds. Dwight Jarvis recorded the fastest lap
of the race on his way to a second place finish.
The True Value Modified Series returns to action on
Thursday, July 23 for the rescheduled “Town Fair Tire
75” at the Thompson International Speedway.
